Ten of the best pictures which tell the story of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend.
Daniil Kvyat
Daniil Kvyat’s last race weekend for Toro Rosso before moving to Red Bull didn’t go according to plan – he retired early from the race with a power unit problem.
Esteban Ocon
Teenage F1 driver-to-be Max Verstappen may have grabbed all the headlines recently but Lotus gave a run to the driver who beat him to the European Formula Three championship this year.
Valtteri Bottas
Williams ended the season with their best result of the year as both drivers finished on the podium. However their cars had a different look – the distinctive red stripe of their Martini livery was coloured blue due to alcohol advertising restrictions in Abu Dhabi.
Kamui Kobayashi
Thanks in part to fans’ contributions to a crowdfund which surpassed £2 million, Caterham returned to the F1 grid in Abu Dhabi. Surprisingly they ran ahead of the Red Bulls early in the race as both RB10s started from the pit lane after being excluded from qualifying.
Jenson Button
This picture has become something of a cliche for this grand prix – a similar image appeared in last year’s top ten. But it’s a particularly fitting picture for Jenson Button, who may have finished his last ever F1 race.
Start
From second on the grid Lewis Hamilton immediately powered past Nico Rosberg at the start and pulled away into a lead he never looked likely to lose.
Fernando Alonso
Fernando Alonso bid farewell to Ferrari amid rumours he had fallen out with team principal Marco Mattiacci before announced his departure from the team following the Brazilian Grand Prix. On the day after the race Ferrari announced Mattiacci had been replaced.
Sebastian Vettel
Alonso’s replacement Sebastian Vettel signed off from Red Bull after six years with their F1 team – which yielded four drivers’ championship titles – and many more with them in the junior categories.
Lewis Hamilton and Nicole Scherzinger
Hamilton celebrated his second championship triumph with girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger.
Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg
Rosberg was gracious in defeat, congratulating Hamilton on his championship triumph.
